Kauffman says the Lake Michigan water connection is still in design and engineering but is still on schedule for a full connection by 2028. "After years of discussion, negotiation, and establishing the legal framework, phase two engineering is nearly complete, and construction is set to begin later this year, this summer in Naperville. It will work its way down Wolfs Crossing, and we should see construction commence in Oswego in 2026. The receiving stations will be constructed in the spring of 2026, and overall construction will take roughly two years. Water from Lake Michigan will be flowing to our taps in summer of 2028. This project will enhance our water supply and support the village's long term sustainability." Oswego, along with Montgomery and Yorkville, officially joined the DuPage Water Commission in October 2024 after years of discussions about finding a new water source due to depleting aquifers in the region. Kauffman says ensuring residents have access to clean, usable water for the foreseeable future was a long process but will be worth it. Kauffman also brought up plans for the new public works facility. He says the village has outgrown the current public works building, which was built in 2002, and an expansion of the facility will help with keeping village vehicles and equipment properly maintained. "Currently, an estimated $2.5 million worth of vehicles and equipment are stored outdoors, exposing them to the elements, and increasing maintenance needs and reducing their lifespan. Next month in March 2025, we will kick off this project with a schematic design and cost presentation to the Village Board, setting the stage for our next phase. Depending on the option selected, construction could begin as early as fall of 2025 with anticipated completion by spring of 2027 This investment in our infrastructure is essential for enhancing the efficiency of our public services and supporting the future growth and prosperity of our community." Kauffman says investments in the village's infrastructure and public works will help ensure they can continue to support their growth and invest in Oswego's future. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Construct three receiving stations to receive Lake Michigan water from the DuPage Water Commission.
