Site work for a road / highway in Amsterdam, New York. Working plans call for site work for a road / highway.

As of October 1, 2024, the project has not been awarded because of funding issues. Reference Number 0000357910 The City of Amsterdam is inviting Engineering firms to submit proposals for the City of Amsterdam Route 5 eastbound removal and the creation of new community gathering space. For further information please contact Daniel Gray, Community and Economic Development Director at 518- 841-4304. Question Acceptance Deadline 08/02/2024 04:00 PM EDT Questions are submitted online Yes Inquiries should be directed to: Daniel Gray, Director of Community & Economic Development (518) 841-4304 dgray@amsterdamny.gov BACKGROUND The City of Amsterdam is a community in the Mohawk Valley Region of New York State that sits on the Mohawk River and is exit 27 off the NYS Thruway, with access to NYS Routes 5, 5S, 30 and Route 67. NYS Route 5 and NYS Route 5S are east-west routes serving the north and south sides of the Mohawk River respectively. In 2019 the City of Amsterdam was awarded $10 Million dollars through New York State's Downtown Revitalization Funding. Included in this award was funding for the Removal of Route 5 eastbound, a Dog Park and a Skate Park. The purpose of funding these projects is to encourage economic growth by providing the community with new public space and through connecting Downtown Amsterdam to the East End Neighborhood and Riverlink park. The purpose of this project is to reconnect Amsterdam's downtown to the East End and Riverlink Park and to create new public space that will provide residents with community gathering space and to stimulate economic growth. The purpose of this project is to meet four major goals: 1. Reconnect the East End Neighborhood to Downtown Amsterdam. The removal of State Route 5 Eastbound, the creation of a trail system and park where State Route 5 eastbound currently exists will connect Main Street to East Main Street. 2. Create Community gathering space. Develop the group of parcels which fall between East Main Street, Washington Ave, and Hamilton Street into a cohesive community gathering space which connects to the space where New York State Route 5 eastbound now exists. Included in this space is going to be a Skate Park as well as a Dog Park 3. Connect Riverlink Park to the new park space. Add an elevator and staircase on the north side of the CSX Tracks, connecting to the existing pedestrian bridge. 4. Reroute traffic. Reverse the direction of Cherry Street to maintain access t o a "with access" parcel, the rear side of the riverfront center, that will no longer have access once NY 5 eastbound is closed, connecting it to Route 30 and converting Schuyler Street and Front Street into two-way streets.
