Site work and addition to a mixed-use development in Grande Cache, Alberta. Design plans call for the addition of a 3,500-square-foot, one-story above grade museum.
Plans call for a 3,500 sq. ft. addition, with approx. 14-18 feet building height to be located northeast of the existing facility. The expansion area is required to be room temperature, humidity, dust and ventilated controlled, suitable for supporting museum displays. The new area is to be used for publicly displaying over 100 taxidermy items ranging from wall mount to free standing pieces. These taxidermy items range from small birds to large wildlife figures, the intent is to display the taxidermy items in their natural habitat with themes for each or combination of species to create a unique visitor experience. The displays can be behind glass or behind short display walls to prevent the public from interacting with the displays. A small theater room with 20 seats is also being considered, using acoustic material and a large screen for showing nature documentaries or historical content of the area. TIMELINE: Planning and design work has commenced. Included with the concept drawings, a high-level cost estimate for the eventual construction of the expansion is required to be used for preparing budgets that will need to be approved for the next phase of the project. Scope of work and schedules for detailed design, tender and construction may be confirmed in 2025. *Construction cost to be determined. Budget for conceptual phase is $40,000.
