The project, which will replace the existing concrete bridge deck and rehabilitate or replace select structural steel members, had previously been expected to use staged construction for four months, followed by a full bridge closure for five months. That plan raised concerns among local drivers. In response, the Maine DOT said: “It was determined that the five-month-long, full closure using Route 161 and/or Grimes Road as an off-site detour will not be necessary. We will be able to allow at least one lane of alternating traffic on site throughout construction.
