Crews with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) began construction between Sinclair Avenue and Route 37 in Marion on August 5. Currently, construction crews are milling and paving to prepare to lay down new asphalt. IDOT officials say there is about three weeks left of construction for this section. Another road project in Carbondale is going on as well. Drivers and bike riders will soon be seeing a new path in their area. On the eastbound lanes of Route 13, starting at the intersection on Old Route 13 and new Route 13, there will be a new shared use path. This path will end at Wood Road in Murphysboro and will connect to the current one in Carbondale. This project started in July and will continue through 2025. __________________________________________________________________________________________ This project may contain Federal Funds. This project requires 24% DBE participation, or if the contract goal is not met, documented evidence of good faith efforts. The Complexity Factor for this project is 0. The Consultant who is selected for this project and all Subconsultants the Prime Consultant will be using are scheduled to attend an initial meeting on October 30, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Region Five/District Nine Office in Carbondale. Phase I/II engineering services are required to perform work associated with the reconstruction and resurfacing of IL 37 in Marion from Old IL 13 to north of Wildcat Dr. in Williamson County. Reconstruction of IL 37 includes pavement resurfacing, pavement patching, curb & gutter, sidewalk, bicycle accommodations, entrance and sideroad improvements, storm sewer, traffic signals, and pavement markings The completion date for this contract will be 72 months after authorization to proceed. The Prime firm must be prequalified in the following categories to be considered for this project: Highways (Roads and Streets) Location Design Studies (Rehabilitation) Special Studies (Location Drainage) Statements of Interest, including resumes of only the key people noted above, must be submitted electronically to the Central Bureau of Design and Environment through the Engineering Prequalification and Agreement System (EPAS).
