Renovation of a military facility in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Design plans call for the renovation of a military facility.
The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) has obtained Treasury Board (TB) approval for Infrastructure Ontario (IO) to conduct open-competitive procurements to acquire design and construction supervision services for an existing forward attack base (FAB) at Ranger Lake. Ranger Lake is one of four forward attack bases in MNR's Northeast Region. It is under the direction of the Chapleau FMH and is located approximately 90 kilometers northeast of Sault Ste. Marie, on the south shore of Ranger Lake. The site occupies approximately six and a half hectares of Crown Land. The facility has been in continuous operation with the MNR (Department of Lands and Forests) since 1924, when it was established as a Deputy Chief Ranger Headquarters in the Mississagi South District of the Soo Inspectorate. The renewal plan for Ranger Lake forward attack base is to rehabilitate the facility through a combination of demolishing unnecessary buildings, replacing buildings which are past their useful life, and renovating and repairing existing infrastructure wherever the current building condition and functionality make it feasible to do so. TIMELINE: Consultant has been awarded. Construction start - July 2025. Substantial Performance/Ready for takeover - January 2026. Move-In / Occupancy - February 2026.
