Request for Proposals for Professional Services: Interpretation and Visitor Experience Planning About the History Center of Olmsted County (HCOC) Since 1973, HCOC has been located on 54-acres in southwest Rochester, Minnesota. It is comprised of a museum, a field for vintage baseball, community gardens, cultivated agricultural fields, the Ralph Stoppel Farmstead (a c. 1940s farmstead), a cabin and one-room schoolhouse, and the George Stoppel Farmstead. HCOC will conduct master planning to more efficiently use its 54-acre campus and more effectively engage the community and earn revenue. As part of a larger master planning effort, HCOC is soliciting Request for Proposals (RFP) from interpretive planning firms to work with HCOC and stakeholders to develop an interpretive framework for its cultivated fields and Ralph Stoppel Farmstead. Interpretive Planning Framework-Introduction This RFP is for interpretive planning services to provide an Interpretive Framework that will complement the organization-wide master plan. In developing the Interpretive Framework, emphasis will be placed on defining a clear visitor experience and interpretation goals. An Architectural firm will be responsible for overall coordination of all disciplines, including interpretive planning, and will be responsible for integrating the respective designs and concepts into a cohesive whole Masterplan deliverable. HCOC Campus Masterplan main goals: Increase community engagement Grow school and community educational offerings Expand visibility / Awareness of the HCOC Increase revenue of the HCOC Create an integrated - connected Campus Support existing and new user groups. This project is funded in part with a Heritage Partnership Grant administered by the Minnesota Historical Society for the purposes of creating a master plan for the whole HCOC property. The primary partners are HCOC and the Mechanical History Roundtable, which has occupied and cultivated approximately 26 acres of HCOC property for about 50 years. The mission of MHRT is "the preservation of antique equipment and rural lifestyles in Olmsted County." The method of Contractor Selection has not been Determined at this time.
