Saving Project...

Renovation of a transportation facility in Salt Lake City, Utah. Completed plans call for the renovation of a transportation facility.

The elevators adjacent to stair b and stair c at the salt lake city international airport’s quick turn-around rental car facility are not operational due to water penetrating into the elevator pit. It is assumed that water penetrates the Enclosure through winter snow being plowed and stored adjacent to the elevator door on level 2, and the excess water coming off of vehicles as they exit the nearby car washes flowing into the elevator doors on level 1. This project will remedy this by replacing the existing elevator in stair b and stair c and associated equipment and rotating the placement of the elevator within the existing hoistway by 90 degrees clockwise. This movement will require the Infill of the cmu block wall to match the existing coursing where the current elevator doors are located, which will provide a tougher barrier for water to penetrate into the hoistway. The new elevator doors will open across from the Stairs on level 1 and level 2. Part of the existing cmu block wall and concrete stem wall will be demolished to fit the new elevator door within the stairwell. An extension to the level 2 landing will be constructed, while retaining Appropriate ada clearances. The new landing extension will cause some fire alarm conduit, and other electrical conduits to be relocated. Structural framing will be added to support the new landing extension and a portion of the existing C-channel supporting the existing landing will be modified to accept the new landing extension. As part of the project, the elevator shaft will be lined with rigid insulation to comply with the iecc requirements. The shaft will also be heated and cooled with a dedicated fan coil unit and condensing unit located outside of the stair well And elevator shaft. The fan coil unit will be mounted above the existing elevator door. The condensing unit will be placed on a concrete equipment pad on the east side of each stair enclosure at ground level. A new sump and pump will be Included in each elevator pit with a float switch to pump any water that is in the elevator pit to the outside. A new outlet for the sump pump will be located in the infill cmu wall on the north side of the elevator hoistway. Additional Alternate for bidding is trench drains being placed in front of the door to the stair well and the existing elevator door location to further minimize the chance of water penetrating into the elevator pit and stairwell. If trench drains are Included in the project, they will tie into the existing oil-sand separator.
