Demolition, site work and new construction of a transportation facility in Chicago, Illinois. Completed plans call for the demolition of a transportation facility; for the construction of a transportation facility; and for site work for a transportation facility.
Description of Work : The Work of the Project is defined by the Contract Documents and includes, but is not limited to, the following: 1. Rehabilitation of and improvements to the existing various platforms and elements of the High-Level Mail Platform bound by Track 38 to the east and Track 30 to the west at Chicago Union Station, in addition to the other Work indicated in the Contract Documents. Major activities include: a. Demolition and reconstruction of Tracks 36, 34, and 32 second pour/top slab and rail. b. Demolition of abandoned mail equipment and abandoned elevators located on the platform. c. Partial demolition and reconstruction of the northernmost and southernmost portions of the High-Level Mail Platform. d. Modification of platform edges, including extensions and reductions, in various areas. e. Modification of platform surfaces, including raising and lowering, in various areas. f. Remediation of existing structural elements, including crack and spalling repairs in various ceiling, floor, wall, column, and beam locations. g. Construction of new platform facilities and passenger amenities including passenger waiting/hold room and restrooms, police facilities, general storage, and various MEP services and Communications facilities. h. Construction of new vertical circulation elements including sloped walkways, ramps, stairs, and elevators, some of which interface with the adjacent property owners above and the basement level below. i. Installation of new furniture, lighting, signage and finishes throughout. j. The Work shall bring the station into full compliance with the 2006 Department of Transportation Accessibility Standards; Amtrak's ADA Guidelines; ADA Accessibility Guidelines; applicable state and local codes and state of good repair (SOGR). The RFQ package is scheduled to be released on November 4, 2024 via Amtrak's Procurement Portal.
