The City of Topeka is inviting bids for the procurement of roadway salt deicer that meets or exceeds the specifications outlined herein for use by the Street Maintenance Section. The City of Topeka is inviting bids for the procurement of Roadway Salt Deicer that meets or exceeds the specifications outlined herein for use by the City's Street Maintenance Section. Bidders must provide comprehensive data for evaluation. Standard and Treated Roadway Deicing Salt furnished under this bid shall meet all requirements as outlined in the specifications below. II. Definitions A. Standard Roadway Deicing Salt: Standard Roadway Deicing Salt is defined as rock salt meeting all requirements of ASTM- D-632 to be classified and marketed as Type 1 Grade 1 road salt, and all other additional requirements of this bid. B. Treated Roadway Deicing Salt: Treated Roadway Deicing Salt is defined as a mixture of Type l Grade l (by ASTM-D-632) regular road salt that is modified consistent with the below listed requirements. Ultimately, Type 1 Grade 1 road salt is blended with specific quantity of an approved magnesium or calcium chloride based pre-wetting agent, that includes a specific quantity of agricultural processing residues and anti-caking products; that are designed, tested, and engineered to accelerate the deicing process, lower the effective working temperature, decrease corrosiveness, minimize leaching of the liquid solution and not cake or clump during transportation or when in storage. C. Agriculture Based Deicing/Anti-Icing Fluids: Agriculture Based Deicing/Anti-Icing Fluids are defined as the concentrated liquid residues derived from the processing of grains, vegetables, and other agricultural products. They are produced from the processing of raw agricultural materials with most products available on the market being produced from corn and beets.
