Site work for a water / sewer project in Lloydminster, Alberta. Completed plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.
https://meridiansource.ca/2024/09/28/city-awards-contract-for-stormwater-upgrades/ The City of Lloydminster council has awarded the contract for phase three of the Northwest Drainage Channel upgrades. The channel is one of two within Lloydminster that moves storm water to the Neale Edmunds Stormwater Management Complex. Phase three of the upgrade project includes channel alignment between the Canadian Pacific Railway crossing south of 57 St. and the Brekko Lake Stormwater Management Facility. The intent is to improve the systems overall capacity and repair eroded areas. In 2019, the channel between 57 St. and Brekko Lake Stormwater Management Facility was upgraded as part of Phase 1 of the project. Due to higher than anticipated flow velocities, significant erosion of this section occurred which will be addressed as part of the Phase 3 work. Mayor Gerald Aalbers says its work that needs to be done. “It’s work that’s needed, most people won’t realize that it’s important but when water starts backing up in anybody’s place on their property, they get worried,” he said. When dealing with storm water and working on related projects Aalbers says, “We want to be away from the peak season.” Peak season as described by Aalbers is from the melt in the spring until the freeze in the fall. Ultimately, the city awarded the contract to Top Grade Construction Ltd. From Lloydminster in the amount of $1,010,370.64 with a 15 per cent contingency. -------------- The Work generally comprises of: The delineation and re-grading of the Northwest Drainage Channel, the installation of gabion rock riprap drop structures, followed by the supply and placement of Class 1 rock rip-rap and geotextiles, Pyramat 25 Turf Reinforcement Mat, Pyramattress, Scourlock, and seed (hydro-seed). Approximately 9,600m2 of Pyramat 25 Turf Reinforcement Mat, including the associated pins and washers, will be supplied by the Owner as outlined within Section 00 30 00 - Available Information. The delineation and re-grading of the Northwest Drainage Channel is required along the existing Northwest Drainage Channel alignment from the Canadian Pacific Railway crossing south of 57 Street to the Brekko Lake Storm Water Management Facility to improve the systems overall capacity and repair eroded areas. The project Site will consist of two (2) locations, one (1) location southwest of the 57 Street crossing, and one (1) location northeast of the 57 Street crossing. The Work will include vegetation grubbing and disposal, topsoil stripping and stockpiling, excavation to the design subgrade elevation including loading, hauling, moisture conditioning, and placement of embankment clay fill (Approximately 2,200m3), as well as the loading, hauling, moisture conditioning and placing of import clay fill (Approximately 500m3), drainage channel contouring and compaction, and the supply and installation of rock rip-rap and gabion rock rip-rap drop structures at select locations. The excess clay fill generated from the delineation and excavation of the Northwest Drainage Channel will be either disposed of at the City of Lloydminster Landfill or placed on site as clay embankment. Upon completion of the delineation and excavation of the Northwest Drainage Channel the Work will include the placement of owner supplied Pyramat 25 Turf Reinforcement Mat (Approximately 7,900m2), supply and placement of Pyramattress (Approximately 400m2), supply and placement of Scourlock (Approximately 265m), and the placement of owner supplied topsoil. The Northwest Drainage Channel is an active storm water drainage channel and as such water management and water control will be a key aspect of the project.
