The Missouri Department of Transportation is accepting comments on the proposal through Dec. 4. The project is tentatively scheduled to be let in November 2026, with work to begin at the earliest in January 2027, said project manager Seiji Shimbo. Early estimates are that the cost will be around $700,000. “The existing bridge rating condition is 3 on the deck. Three is in poor condition,” explained Shimbo. Bridge components are rated from 0-9, with 9 being the best. The structure, which is just south of the Highway 53/Shelby Road intersection, has had no previous major renovations, Shimbo said. Inspections have found that the deck was 60% saturated by moisture and in need of replacement, he said. The existing deck will be removed and replaced. The super and substructures are in better condition, rated at a 6 each, and will not be replaced during this project. The deck, super and substructures are the three components inspected. Construction will be staged to allow the roadway to remain open. Motorists should anticipate a lane closure with a 10.5-foot width restriction in the vicinity of the northbound bridge as work is underway. The rehabilitation work will be underway for approximately four months.
