Snow Plwoing, Sanding, Salting & Removal Snow Plowing Response Time & Standards Snow plowing and piling will be automatic and begin immediately upon accumulation of 2"/51 mm of snow or when requested by the school's Head Custodian. All plowing is to be done outside of school hours unless otherwise asked for. The contractor(s) is responsible for determining snow accumulation and actively monitoring snow events and conditions as response time is critical to the management of this contract. The contractor will plow snow from driveways, parking lots, fence gates, bus and emergency exit routes, to be pushed in designated areas that will not impede vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Snow is not to be piled against any buildings, sheds, parked vehicles or other areas that had been previously designated on the site diagrams. Any sites deemed improperly plowed or incomplete should be corrected within four (4) hours of notification or immediately after school with no additional cost to the Board. Sanding/Salting The supply and application of clean, washed, environmentally friendly sand and salt mix to icy surfaces is to be done only by request from the school's Head Custodian in the areas they have been designated for. The mixture must be sufficient to provide a safe, slip free surface for pedestrians and vehicles. Application of the mixture must be spread uniformly at each site without damaging landscape and concrete. The Head Custodian will assess the quantity and quality of the sand and salt mix to confirm the stated goal of slip free surface has been achieved. If it has not been met, additional mixture may be requested. Snow Removal In order to maintain lines of site at entrances/exits as well as large accumulations, snow removal may be required throughout the season. Snow removal will be on a requested basis at any site by LDSB Property Services Manager - Don Porter or assigned Maintenance Department designate. Prior to removal, LDSB Property Services Manager or designate, will meet with the contractor representative on-site to establish the number of loads to be removed and from where. An email will then be sent as authorization to commence services agreed upon (specified loads to be removed per site, date and time, and LDSB representative that will be present. The contractor(s) will not be permitted to remove snow from any site without a LDSB representative on site to confirm the number of loads removed, unless otherwise communicated by email from LDSB Property Services Manager or designate.
