The main Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD) at Victoria General Hospital (VGH) is highly constrained. While VGH has grown considerably in terms of size and medical programs over the years, the MDRD has undergone only one significant space expansion in 2005 since the hospital was originally constructed in 1983. The MDRD does not meet modern Canadian Standards Association (CSA) or Infection Control standards for multiple priority requirements. An opportunity has been identified to expand the MDRD into the adjacent space currently occupied by the Environmental Support Services (ESS) team. By impacting this area, additional domino-like construction phases and moves have been identified as being required to enable the project, each of which will include some degree of tenant improvements or construction activities including: Relocating the ESS team to the space currently occupied by Hospital at Home (Hah); Relocating Hah team to the space currently occupied by Parking Services; Transition Parking Services to a Hub and Spoke program; Off site space identified at Gorge Road Hospital to function as the program Hub; Create a new on site Spoke office in the space currently occupied by Cashier Services; and Relocate the Cashier Services position to Royal Jubilee Hospital (RJH).
