The RMWB operates the Hamlet of Fort Chipewyan's Water Treatment Plant (WTP), located at 202 Breyant Avenue, Fort Chipewyan AB. The WTP provides drinking water to the community. The Fort Chipewyan WTP recently underwent a significant expansion encompassing the addition of two new treatment trains, chemical injection systems, reservoir, and temporary distribution pumping system. At the time of expansion, the existing facility contained a potable water storage reservoir that was to be integrated into the new storage system during construction. However, during construction, the old distribution pump well was found to be suffering severe structural degradation. This resulted in shutting down the distribution system and converting the temporary distribution system to a permanent system. As a result, the original potable water reservoir had to be shut down and decommissioned. The Municipality would like to bring the original reservoir back online and make various process improvements to enhance potable water storage and distribution systems.
