The City of Pittsburgh is making roadway improvements on Fifth Ave and Forbes Ave from downtown through Oakland, with full depth reconstruction planned on Forbes from Crosstown Blvd to Craft Ave and on Fifth between Crosstown Blvd and the Birmingham Bridge. The City's work, in partnership with the Port Authority, will include signal pole upgrades, traffic redesign, sidewalk bumpouts, and new bus shelters. The full depth reconstruction portion of the project has the potential to affect existing 15-inch, 16-inch, 20-inch, and 6-inch mains that are 80-100+ years old. The full depth replacement of the roadway along with lowering of the roadway could result in damage to these mains. These mains should be replaced as part of this project. This project is included in the Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority’s Capital Improvement Program.
