https://www.4029tv.com/article/centerton-moves-forward-with-police-department-remodel-expansion-project/63153048 Centerton moves forward with police department remodel, expansion project CENTERTON, Ark. — Tuesday night, leaders in Centerton took the last step needed to move forward with expanding the city's police department. The city council approved a nearly $1.5 million agreement for Milestone Construction Company to begin work on a remodel and expansion project. Advertisement "This is the last contract to get done," police chief Cody Harper said. "And then they can actually start turning dirt and putting some boards up and putting a roof over it. And, we'll actually have something going on the ground." The police department was built in 2013. The city says over the past 11 years, the number of people working in the department essentially doubled, prompting the need for more space. "You know, cause our community is growing," Mayor Bill Edwards said. "I mean, we're a community now of about 26,000 to 27,000 people, and it's not slowing down at all. And our police department is growing." In a time when many would argue that public safety is more vital than ever, it's important for the city to make sure its police department can function as efficiently as possible. "What we're doing with the new offices is we're actually putting everybody down in the same area, so we'll actually have more face-to-face contact with everyone every day," Harper said. "Being able to collaborate together and being able to bounce ideas off each other. It'll just make us stronger. It'll make our teamwork go up." The mayor says the project will help maintain his city's reputation of being a safe place for all. "We've been named, you know, a lot of times, 5th, 6th safest city in Arkansas," Edwards said. The city plans to break ground on the project in early 2025. Work should be finished by the fall of 2025. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://www.centertonar.us/documents/285/PC_Agenda___Minutes_2024.11.05.pdf PUB24-02 POLICE DEPT.
