Demolition, site work, remodeling and renovation of a mixed-use development in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Completed plans call for the remodel of a educational facility.
In general, the work consists of: This project is located at 2200 E Kenwood Blvd., at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee Wisconsin. The UWM Union parking structure was built originally for UWM. There are two levels for parking, an upper and a lower. The lower level of the parking structure is below grade and the upper level of the parking structure is at grade level. The foundation of the structure consists of spread footings under the concrete columns. The perimeter walls are supported off of strip footings. There are seven stairs with entrances to the lower level. The stairs and stairwell walls are conventionally reinforced concrete. Stairs U, V & T were part of the original parking garage construction and consisted of four flights and four landings of mild reinforced, cast in place concrete construction, elevated and spanning between stair core walls. Stairs R & W were added as part of the Peck and Bolton hall additions and consist of two flights of stairs and two landings, mild reinforced, cast in place, cast on grade concrete construction, with exterior foundation walls and integral cap bearing soils above. Stairs W, U, V, R, & T all have an integral waffle slab roof (above penthouse at plaza deck), and are enclosed by curtain wall. Stairs L&M are also part of the original construction and are located at the southern end of the garage going from grade to basement and are constructed of mild reinforced, cast in place, slab on grade construction. All stairs have either active or formerly active plumbing for snow-melt systems. The general scope of work as follows; Stairs L, M & T and the vehicle ramp will be demolished and replaced. Snow melt systems will be installed where they are replaced, with the exception of stairway T. Stairs U & V require extensive structural repairs. Stairs R&W will require minor structural repairs. The work also includes removal and replacement of the existing snow melt system, installation of a new pedestrian ramp and replacement of all guardrails/ handrails on the stairs. It also includes repairing cracks in the stairwell walls and floor as shown on the documents. *This project is being let using the single prime bidding and contracting process. DFD will publicly bid the applicable mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection (MEP) divisions of work. DFD will identify a lowest, qualified, responsible, certified bidder in each applicable MEP division of work. These successful MEP bids must be included in all general prime contractor bids received.
