Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Grimes, Iowa. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; for paving for a road / highway; sidewalk / parking lot; sidewalk / parking lot; water / sewer project; bridge / tunnel; and bridge / tunnel.
The Little Beaver Creek Improvements project includes regrading the east and west creek banks along approximately 1300 linear feet of Little Beaver Creek adjacent to Lion's Park. In addition to the bank regrading, a limestone outcropping stair step will be constructed south of the pedestrian bridge, on the west side of the creek. These steps will include limestone blocks, gravel subbase and permeable membrane, along with riprap stone around the stairs. Additionally, the project will regrade an existing berm on the west side of the creek and remove approximately 10,300 CY of soil. A portion of the soil will be used as fill within Lion's Park, which will be spread and mass graded. Existing utilities will be adjusted as needed in the vicinity impacted by the grade changes. The improvements include excavation of approximately 13,338 CY of total earthwork, 6 minor and major adjustments to sanitary manhole structures, removal of approximately 700 SY of PCC sidewalk, removal of approximately 33 trees (truck diameter greater than or equal to 3"), removal of various park amenities (gazebo, shed structure, and chain link fences/backstops) temporary and permanent seeding, traffic control, erosion control, and miscellaneous associated work necessary to complete the project. Site Directions: The project is along Little Beaver Creek within Lion's Park. Doc Note - Paper copies of the Contract Documents are available from Nilles Associates, 1933 SW Magazine Road, Ankeny, Iowa 50023 SE Main Street, Grimes, Iowa 50111, for a fee of Fifty Dollars ($50.00) per set. This fee is refundable, provided the following conditions are met: (1) The Contract Documents are returned complete and in a reusable condition, and (2) they are returned within fourteen (14) calendar days after the award of the project. You must call Nilles Associates at 515-965-0123 in advance to reserve a paper copy. Work on the improvement shall be commenced any time after a written Notice to Proceed is issued and shall be completed as stated below. The Notice to Proceed will be issued after the preconstruction conference, which is expected to occur in February 2025. Each Bidder shall accompany its bid with bid security as defined in Iowa Code Section 26.8, as security that the successful Bidder will enter into a Contract for the work bid upon and will furnish after the award of Contract a corporate Surety Bond, in a form acceptable to the City of Grimes, for the faithful performance of the Contract, in an amount equal to one hundred percent (100%) of the amount of the Contract. The Bidder's security shall be in the amount fixed in the Instructions to Bidders and shall be in the form of a cashier's check or a certified check drawn on an FDIC insured bank in Iowa or on an FDIC insured bank chartered under the laws of the United States; or a certified share draft drawn on a credit union in Iowa or chartered under the laws of the United States; or a Bid Bond on the form provided in the Contract Documents with corporate Surety satisfactory to the City of Grimes. The bid shall contain no condition except as provided in the specifications. Each successful Bidder will be required to furnish a corporate Surety Bond in an amount equal to one hundred percent (100%) of its Contract price. Said Bond shall be issued by a responsible Surety approved by the City of Grimes and shall guarantee the faithful performance of the Contract and the terms and conditions therein contained and shall guarantee the prompt payment of all material and labor, and protect and save harmless the City of Grimes from claims and damages of any kind caused by the operations of the Contract and shall also guarantee the maintenance of the improvement caused by failures in materials and construction for a period of four (4) years from and after acceptance of the Contract. The Contractor shall substantially complete the overall project within thirty (30) working days. Substantial completion of the overall project shall be defined as all grading, utility construction completed, and all temporary and permanent seeding being completed. Should the Contractor fail to substantially complete the work within this timeframe, liquidated damages of Eight Hundred Dollars ($800.00) per calendar day will be assessed for work not substantially completed within the designated Contract term(s). The Contractor shall fully complete the overall project within five (5) working days after the substantial completion date. Full completion for the overall project shall be defined as all improvements ready for final acceptance. Should the Contractor fail to fully complete the work within this timeframe, liquidated damages of Four Hundred Dollars ($400.00) per calendar day will be assessed for work not fully completed within the designated Contract term(s). Est.
