This project will be comprised of two parts to complete landfill construction. Part 1, site work, primarily consists of approximately 19.5 acres of grading with approximately 229,000 cy of excavation and placement and compaction of structural fill. Other work includes construction of perimeter security fence, gates, installation of gas monitoring probes and masonry retaining wall retaining wall and foundation. Completion of this project within Contract Time of 50 calendar days is critically important to the County to avoid exhaustion of available disposal capacity and exposure to potentially significant penalties. Interested Contractors are expected to provide bids to complete all Base Bid work within the Contract Time. If the work is not completed within the Contract Time, the County shall be entitled to claim liquidated damages as addressed in subsequent sections. The Contractor may propose to perform construction outside the normal operating hours of the Central Maui Landfill to facilitate efficient construction, maintain continuous operation of the landfill, and ensure project completion within the Contract Time. The Contractor will be responsible to coordinate and sequence all aspects of construction that could affect landfill operations to ensure minimal impact to access and ability to efficiently carry out landfill operations throughout the construction period. The project work area is located on Pulehu Road approximately 2,700 feet south of the Central Maui Landfill facility entrance. The north CML 99 acres Parcel, where several material stockpiles are located, is located 1,000 feet north of the CML entrance facility. The County 209 Parcel for off-site borrow source is located on west side of Kuihelani Hwy (Hwy 380) approximately 3.36 miles south of the intersection of Maui Veterans Hwy (Hwy 311) and Kuihelani Hwy (Hwy 380).
