Site work and new construction of a power facility in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Design plans call for the construction of a power facility.
Halifax Water is currently developing an Ambient Temperature District Energy System (ATDES) in the Cogswell Redevelopment District adjacent to the Halifax Wastewater Treatment Facility (HWWTF). The Energy Centre is to be constructed at the HWWTF and will provide pumping to the existing distribution piping system (DPS) and facilitate the transfer of thermal energy between the wastewater effluent and DPS fluid. Work for the Cogswell Redevelopment project is underway and includes ATDES Distribution Piping System (DPS) mains and services. A detailed design for the DPS was completed by Pinchin and WSP in 2021. The DPS has been installed with the other utility work as part of the land development project. TIMELINE: Stantec Consulting Ltd. has been engaged as the prime consultant to complete detailed design and construction services for the development of the Energy Centre. Design of the DPS or ETSs is not included in this scope. However, planning for future ETS SCADA controls and energy metering integration into the Energy Centre SCADA and communications network is required based on the concept outlined in the Pre-Design Report. Construction procurement will get underway in early 2026. *Cost to be confirmed.
