Elevator Cylinder Replacement Question Deadline 01/27/2025 at 1:00 PM ET Questions concerning this solicitation must be delivered in writing to: Sonia Castro Procurement Manager Somerville City Hall Procurement & Contracting Services Department 93 Highland Avenue Somerville, MA 02143 Or emailed to: scastro@somervillema.gov Or faxed to: 617-625-1344 The City of Somerville, through the Procurement and Contracting Services Department, Invites Sealed Bids For: Elevator Cylinder Replacement The Chief Procurement Officer reserves the right to reject any or all proposals if, in her sole judgment, the best interest of the City of Somerville would be served by so doing. o Erect safety/sight barricades and lay protective floor covering around work areas. o Suspend and secure (two methods) the elevator car at the top of the hoistway. o Disconnect and remove the existing piston from the jack casing. The piston will be taken apart and removed for proper disposal off-site. o Drain all fluids from the jack casing, placed into drums, and remove for proper disposal off-site. o Remove the jack. o Remove any hazardous debris from inside of primary ground casing and store in approved containers for proper disposal off-site. o The Contractor will be solely responsible for proper disposal of all materials removed from the work site. o Clean the primary ground casing hole and check for plumb. o Install new jack assembly into the existing PVC (polyvinyl chloride) liner. Thread and weld cylinder sections together. Allow cooling and protective wrap at joints. o Install the new piston into the casing. Cylinder assembly must be compliant with Elevator Safety Code 524 CMR, which incorporates ASME A17.1-2013 by reference. o Attach the new piston to the platen plate on underside of elevator and properly align. o Jackhammer removal of the concrete block that is acting as buffer springs. There are currently no buffer springs in the elevator pit. o Install new buffer springs in the elevator pit. o Fill unit with oil and check for proper alignment and operation. o Remove any debris, old equipment and used fluids and properly dispose off-site. o Perform Full Load Safety Test in the presence of a State-approved Elevator Inspector.
