Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Birmingham, Michigan. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; for paving for a road / highway; sidewalk / parking lot; sidewalk / parking lot; and water / sewer project.
Reference Number 0000372529 The project will include resurfacing of Adams Road between Buckingham Avenue and the northerly city limits (just south of Evergreen Drive in the City of Troy). The project will also include new portions of water main and storm sewer, utility service connections, as well as abandonment/removal of existing utilities. Partial and full-depth pavement repairs are included for Adams Road and adjacent side streets, as well as new sidewalks and sidewalk ramps, curb and gutter replacements and new curb & gutter installations, installtion of a new jersey wall pedestrian barrier on the west side of the Adams Road GTW Railroad Bridge, and new pavement markings throughout the project. Approximate quantities are as follows: 1,403 linear feet of new water mains, 1,108 linear feet of new sewers, 9,600 square yards of partial-depth milling, 3,300 tons on new HMA pavment, 2,300 linear feet of curb and gutter, 5,400 square feet of new sidewalks, plus other work to make a complete project. In order to coordinate the work with several nearby K-12 school facilities, the project schedule will be specific and expedited, with the final contract award to stipulate that the majority of the work is completed between mid-June through August of 2025. Bidders are encouraged to review specific scheduling information included in the "Supplemental Instructions to Bidders" document (Specification Section 301). The successful bidder shall be required to post bonds, and to comply with the contract requirements of the City Charter. Bids are firm, and no bid may be withdrawn for a period of sixty (60) days after opening of bids. A certified check or bid bond in the amount of five percent (5%) of the base bid must accompany each bid proposal. -- Bonding Requirements - Bid Bond 5 % - Performance Bond 100 % - Payment Bond 100 % Question Deadline 01/24/2025 at 5:00 PM ET Questions are submitted online No . information may be emailed to the contact below and confirmed by calling (248) 530-1850: Attention: Mr. Cory Borton, Assistant Director of Engineering, cborton@bhamgov.org. General Requirements - Bidder Prequalification/Preregistration Required - Bid Deposit Required - Insurance Required The project consists of pavement improvements for Adams Road from Evergreen Road to Madison Street within the City of Birmingham, Oakland County, Michigan. An existing bridge over a railroad is present between Evergreen Road and Tottenham Road. The pavements on the existing bridge are not within the scope of this project. The Adams Road improvements will include rehabilitation of the roadway alignment by cold milling the profile of the pavements 2 inches and construct a new 2 inch thick overlay with full depth replacement patching as needed. The traffic volume (AADT) along Adams Road in the year of 2019 was 13,756 vehicles per day. We assume commercial vehicles will make up 3 percent of the total traffic. In addition, isolated areas of water main and combined sewer replacement in conjunction with the proposed paving improvements will be performed. Locations of the proposed underground utility replacements were not available upon completion of this report. However, most of the existing utility repair areas are anticipated to be in the adjacent greenbelt areas and not beneath the existing pavements. It is our understanding that underground utilities will be replaced using open-cut installation methods. Invert depths of the proposed water main will range between 5 and 6 feet below grade and the combined sewer invert depth will ranges between 8 and 10 feet below existing grades. The field operations, laboratory testing, and engineering report preparation were performed under direction and supervision of a licensed professional engineer. Our services were performed according to generally accepted standards and procedures in the practice of geotechnical engineering in this area. Our scope of services for this project is as follows: 1. We performed full depth pavement core samples at six (6) locations, B-1 through B-6, within alternating lanes of Adams Road within the project limits. 2. We drilled a total of six (6) soil borings at the pavement core locations. Soil borings B-1 was performed on Adams Road, north of the existing railroad bridge present between Evergreen Stret and Tottenham Road. Soil borings B-2 through B-6 were performed along Adams Road from south of the existing railroad bridge, extending to a depth of 15 feet below grade. 3. We performed laboratory testing on samples obtained from the soil borings. Laboratory testing included visual engineering classification, natural moisture content, organic matter content (losson-ignition), dry density, and unconfined compressive strength determinations. 4. We prepared this engineering report. The report includes recommendations for design pavement sections, paving materials, and construction considerations for underground utility construction and pavement construction including grade preparation and subgrade stabilization as necessary.
