Site work for a civil project in Amherst, Massachusetts. Completed plans call for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and water / sewer project.
Sealed proposals submitted on a form furnished by the University of Massachusetts, and clearly identified as a Bid, endorsed with the name and address of the Bidder, the Project and Contract number will be received from: General Bidders Estimate: $1,460,000.00 Project No: 0687988 Contract No: UMA25-18 Title: Pierpont, Utility Tunnel Upgrades RL The work shall be completed on or before 08/15/2025 after the Notice to Proceed and in general the project scope: Replace all piping and hangers in Pierpont Hall Utility Tunnel Any bid Submitted to the UMass Supplier Portal after the date and time specified will not be considered. No hard copies will be accepted. Minimum rates of wages to be paid on the project have been determined by the Commissioner of Labor & Workforce Development under the provisions of Sections 26 & 27, Chapter 149 of the General Laws. Wage rates are listed in the Contract form portion of specification book. Each General Bid proposal must be secured by an accompanying deposit of 5% of the total bid. Deposits shall be in the form of a BID BOND, CERTIFIED, TREASURER'S or CASHIER'S CHECK payable to the University of Massachusetts. Deposits shall be returned in accordance with the law. All bids for this project are subject to the provisions of either or both Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 30, Section 39M as amended and Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 149, Sections 44A 44I inclusive. The Awarding Authority reserves the right to waive any informalities in or to reject any and all bids if it be in the public interest to do so. Pierpont Hall is located within the Southwest Residential Area of campus. The buildings are bounded by Sunset Avenue to the west and Fearing Street to the south. The project laydown area shall be located on the south side of Pierpont Hall. The contractor shall be responsible for providing temporary water service to the building throughout the duration of the project. UMASS will provide a location on site for the temporary water connection. The contractor shall plan on suppling a minimum of 500 feet of hose for the temporary water services. b. The project consists of replacing the utility piping and supporting frames within the existing utility tunnels at the Pierpont Residential Hall. Utilities include the following: 1) Domestic water (cold, hot and recirculated hot water). 2) Fire protection. 3) Hydronic heating (supply, return). c. The replacement of the utility piping and associated work outlined in the Construction Drawings shall be constructed to meet all requirements of the Massachusetts State Building Code, current edition, in addition to all other applicable codes and regulations. d. The existing utility pipes and their supporting frames shall be fully demolished within the tunnel up to the first fitting above the first-floor penetration. Removed elements shall be replaced with new utility piping, support frames, anchors, and guides as indicated in the Construction Drawings and Technical Specifications. All new hot- and cold-water piping, fittings, anchors, and guides shall be insulated per the Technical Specifications. e. New floor access hatches for the tunnel shall be installed as indicated in the Construction Drawings. B. The work will include all operations necessary to deliver the building(s) and ancillary on and off-site amenities in a fully installed and operable condition including all utility and site work and obtaining all necessary licenses, permits, and certificates. Where utilities exist within and adjacent to the building(s) and ancillary parking lots, and are known by the Owner, they have been shown on the site plan(s) appearing in, but not restricted to, the exhibits. Connections to these existing utility lines will be the responsibility of the General Contractor. C. The scope of work, without limiting the generality thereof, includes all labor, materials, equipment and services required to perform the work described fully in the Drawings and Specifications and includes, but is not limited to the following major work: 1. Construction of new utilities within the existing utility tunnel including, but not limited to: a. Demolition and removal of existing domestic water, fire protection, and hydronic heating piping and support frames. b. Installation of new domestic water, fire protection, and hydronic heating piping. c. Installation of new steel support frames for the utility pipes. d. Installation of new steel reinforcement around new floor hatch openings. e. Installation of new steel floor access hatches. f. Repairing deteriorated and damaged sections of the concrete utility pipe tunnel structure as indicated on the drawings. No questions from Bidders will be accepted within 5 days of the Bid opening
