As of March 30, 2026, the project is on hold during advanced planning. An architect has been selected. A further bid schedule and firm construction timeline have not been revealed. Original solicitation below for reference: The initial scope of work includes Advance Planning for the renovation of and addition to the Fetzer Hall complex to accommodate the programmatic needs of a new Carolina Student Recreation and Wellbeing Center. Upon successful completion of the Advanced Planning phase, it is anticipated that the University will contract the selected team for full design services to include the design and construction of the proposed project. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is soliciting qualification submittals from individual engineering sub-consultant designers interested in providing discipline-specific engineering design services to a pre-selected lead design team for the Fetzer Hall Addition and Renovation. The project will accommodate the programmatic needs of a new Carolina Student Recreation & Wellbeing Center. This solicitation is for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection, and structural and civil engineering teams for the project.
