Renovation of a transportation facility in Ottawa, Ontario. Completed plans call for the renovation of a transportation facility.
Multiple phase project to construct two new elevator shafts with elevator on the east and west side of the pedestrian bridge & tower. One elevator must remain in service at all times. Only once the new east elevator is commissioned, operational and handed over to client, then removal of the existing elevator on the west side of the Tower. Construction of a new elevator shaft with floor-infills at existing elevator shaft. New foundations for each elevator, exterior envelope, modification to existing construction and services tie-in. New tactile indicators throughout, replacement of select existing exterior envelope elements, including double doors at bus route level. New roofing assembly and tie-in at new elevator shafts. Construction Fencing, Temporary Hoarding, signage, and creation of temporary protected barrier-free path of travel routes. Building will remain in full-time operation, with exception of limited engineering hours. Intense coordination between contractor, project manager and client for Bus Shelters: Phased removal, temporary storage, and reinstallation at revised location. Disconnection of services prior to demolition, rerouting of services, and connection of new services for operation. Passenger Elevator: Supply and installation of 2 passenger elevators at the Blair transit station. The elevators are to be 4000 LB capacity operating at 200 foot per minute car speed. The elevators are to be machine room-less (MRL) design. Project challenges include extensive use of glass in the cabs, the requirement for vandal resistance, the requirement for durability considering exposure to salt and extreme temperatures, and the need for a non-proprietary elevator system that can be readily maintained by any of multiple elevator contractors. Civil Scope of Work Overview: The scope of work for the project includes, but is not limited to, the following: - Regrading of landscape areas east and west of the existing building. - Implementation of splash pads for roof drainage. - Storm servicing works including the installation of a catch basin and two new storm service laterals. - Replacement of the concrete sidewalk and installation of new TWSI in the area fronting the proposed elevator shafts. - Replacement of the concrete sidewalk fronting the existing children's service building. - Replacement of the existing asphalt sidewalk east of the children's service building. - Relocation of an existing bus shelter and installation of a new bus shelter.
