This project requires 24% DBE participation, or if the contract goal is not met, documented evidence of good faith efforts. The Complexity Factor for this project is 0.035. The Consultant who is selected for this project and all Subconsultants the Prime Consultant will be using are scheduled to attend an initial meeting on April 22, 2025, at 10:30 AM at the Region One/District One Office in Schaumburg. Phase II engineering services are required to provide I-55 safety and operational improvements between the interchanges of IL 53 and I-355. The I-55 roadway will be widened between IL 53 and I-355 to construct one auxiliary lane in each direction where the existing outside shoulder is currently located. The proposed geometry for the improvements is three 12' foot lanes in each direction, a 12' auxiliary lane in each direction, 6' inside shoulder, 10' outside shoulder, and guardrails and retaining walls where necessary in each direction on I-55. Noise abatement wall solicitation will occur in Phase II. An open drainage system using drainage ditches outside the edge of pavement is recommended for this project. The existing open drainage system outside the mainline pavement will be maintained with minimal changes to the ditches. Minimal changes include modifying the ditch foreslopes to accommodate the proposed widening. Otherwise, the grades of the drainage system will be maintained. The additional pavement for the auxiliary widening will drain to this open drainage system. At the southwest end of the project, approximately 900' of RCP relief storm sewer will be installed along the south side of the Frontage Road. The existing enclosed drainage system for the median and center lanes and the existing outfalls for the drainage will remain unchanged. Roadway lighting is provided throughout the project limits. Six light poles within the project area will need to be relocated due to roadway widening for the auxiliary lanes. The completion date for this contract will be 24 months after authorization to proceed.
