Public Works Director Anush Nejad discussed the plans during a recent Coffee with the Mayor. One of the scheduled projects is Phase 2 of the Pioneer Trail Pedestrian Project, which will continue the work done during Phase 1 in 2013/14. The new phase is from Larch Avenue to Ski Run Blvd., and will upgrade the road with five-foot wide sidewalks, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant crossings, street lighting, minor storm water infrastructure, and landscaping on each side of the roadway., 11-foot lanes with gutters, and Class II Bike lanes. The improvements also include transit system upgrades through the placement of bus shelter pads with electrical connection capability. The project will start this summer. It was originally planned for 2024, but some right-of-way issues needed to be completed. Barton joint care in story Since Nejad arrived at the City of South Lake Tahoe three years ago, there have been significant expenditures on new snow removal equipment and a streamlined Capital Improvement Project (CIP) program. The 2025 CIP program will be the largest in the City's history, with $120 million slated for over 20 projects. Besides the Ski Run project, $3.1M will be spent on roadway rehabilitation, a Bijou Bike path connector through the park, various drainage projects, energy savings projects at 19 city facilities, new pavement at the airport, a roof upgrade for the police department, public access improvements at the Bellamy garage, new EV charging areas, and completion of the new recreation center expected by January 2026. Fire station upgrades for Station 1 are also in the works. Nejad said upgrades on the bike paths in the City will include nine bike repair stations, wayfinding signs, QR codes on signs for trails, and completion of upgrades to the Bijou Skate Park. "It makes me proud every day on what's doing on," said City Manager Joe Irvin at the presentation. "To see all of these projects on the shelves for many years, and they now come to fruition."
