Nelson County seeking bids for emergency radio equipment to be installed on a Verizon cell tower in the Culver town Ballpark. Deputy Judge-Executive Brad Metcalf said the equipment could cost as much as $100,000. The equipment has already been budgeted. Fiscal Cour t is also planning to solicit bids for new radio towers in the south end of the county, in order to improve emergency radio service. Metcalf said that in one of the cases, there is a possibility of a cell phone company building a tower, opening the door for the county to enter into a similar lease agreement as with Verizon for the Culvertown tower. He said this would shore up dead spots in radio coverage in areas of Nelson County south of Balltown.
