The scope of improvement for several traffic signals requires the removal and installation of traffic signal conductors, replacing Ground Boxes, updating detection, and replacing detection cables. Because many of these locations utilize existing conduits and infrastructure within high volume intersections, the contractor must take special care to maintain stop-and-go operations to the greatest extent possible. Every effort must be made to minimize dark and/or flashing signals and this may include, but are not limited to: sequencing of construction, night work, increased production rates, temporary jumper cables, or other methods as approved by the Engineer. Once the traffic signal is placed from stop-and-go operation to flashing mode or all-way stop, the work must continue at the location without delay until operation is restored. If the installation of new traffic signal heads impedes the existing signal head, the contractor shall furnish and install jumper conductors between the old and new heads.
