Renovation of an educational facility in Rockdale, Texas. Completed plans call for the renovation of a 33,301-square-foot educational facility.
Renovations to Rockdale Career Academy. Under consideration in this study are renovations proposed at the Rockdale ISD College & Career Academy, located at 1700 Brazos Ave. in Rockdale, Texas. Based on the information provided by the client, a 17- to 18-ft tall freestanding cantilevered screen wall (structural steel frame, masonry wainscot with metal panel above) and a walkway canopy are proposed at the west and southwest sides of the existing buildings. Foundation system consisting of shallow footings or drilled-straight-shaft piers are expected to be preferred to support the load of the proposed structures, provided soil-related vertical movements will not cause structural performance concerns. Detailed information regarding the planned structural loads was not available at the time of this study. Based on design requirementsinformation provided by L.A. Fuess Partners, we understand that maximum column loads on the order of 60 kips are expected for the canopy. Also, wall loads of about 3 kips per foot are anticipated for the proposed screen wall. It is our understanding that at the time of this study, site grading plans were not yet available. The recommendations presented in this report were prepared with the assumption that final grade for the proposed structures will be within plus or minus 1 ft of existing grades.
