The existing road is a failed tar & chip road with stone bed. All questions and concerns must be submitted to Mr. Latchum; information gathered from any other individual, including other employees of the Town unless specified by Mr. Latchum, may not be used in the preparation of this bid. A small amount of spot repair, full depth restoration is anticipated, as designated by the Town. The Town of Berlin seeks to enter into a contract with a qualified Contractor for the milling and overlay of the existing Lee Road, and all ancillary work for the Town of Berlin's Lee Road Rehabilitation Paving Project. All work shall be performed in accordance with the Contract Documents, including this RFP, Drawings, Technical Specifications, and the applicable general requirements of the Town of Berlin Design and Construction Standards for Water, Sewer, and Roadway Systems. B. SPECIFICATIONS 1. The existing road shall be milled 2" down, with millings being recompacted as a road base. Road base to be compacted to at least 95% compaction as measured by modified proctor. 2. The compacted road base shall then be overlayed with 2" of bituminous concrete base course, and with 2" of bituminous concrete surface course, with a tack coat between the base and surface courses. 3. Where marked by the town, full depth restoration to occur consisting of excavation 6" of existing roadbed, below the 2" mill, and backfilling with 4" of graded aggregate base course with rolled compaction. 4. At the existing fence gate, the existing road elevation must remain the same after road rehabilitation. This will require deeper excavation/milling to install the 4" of bituminous concrete being installed. The Contractor shall provide a 20ft transition in each direction of the road for tying in the grades. 5. Topsoil tie-in is required for this project. 6. Maintenance of Traffic is not anticipated to be necessary for this project, however at the request of the Contractor, the Town is willing to assist with traffic control along Purnell Crossing Road. Contractor to provide 72-hour notice prior to requesting the services of the Town. 7. Measurement of the bituminous concrete will be made horizontally along the top surface width and length for calculation of square yard surface area. ALTERNATIVE BID SCOPE: 8. Instead of the 2" base course and 2" surface course, a single 2" layer of surface course is to be installed following the 2" mill and compaction of the roadbed with a tack coat between the surface course and existing surface
