The Alabama Fire College is currently accepting bids for UL 217 compliant smoke detectors. A completed bid packet consists of: Bid Proposal form, Bid Certification form (must be notarized), and State of Alabama Disclosure form. 1. Compliance with UL 217 Standard: The smoke detectors must be UL 217 listed and comply with all relevant requirements outlined by UL (Underwriters Laboratories) Standard 217 for Smoke Detectors. 2. Type: Photoelectric or Ionization, as specified. 3. Installation Location: The detectors must be suitable for residential applications. 4. Mounting: The smoke detectors must be designed for easy ceiling or wall mounting with necessary hardware provided. Performance Requirements: 1. Detection Method: Must incorporate a reliable smoke detection mechanism with a fast response to the presence of smoke. 2. Alarm Sound Level: The detectors must emit a minimum alarm sound level of 85 decibels (dB) at 10 feet. 3. Sensitivity: Smoke detectors must be sensitive to both slow smoldering and fast flaming fires to ensure prompt detection. 4. Power Supply: Smoke detectors must be equipped with a 10-year sealed lithium battery that is nonreplaceable and tamper-resistant, per UL 217 requirements. The battery must be capable of powering the detector for at least 10 years of continuous operation. 5. End-of-Life Indicator: The detector must feature an audible and/or visual end-of-life indicator that alerts when the unit needs to be replaced, as required by UL 217. Operational Features: 1. Test Button: Each smoke detector must include a manual test button for verifying functionality. 2. Status Indicators: Detectors must feature visual indicators for power, alarm status, and fault conditions (e.g., low battery or sensor issues). Environmental Requirements: 1. Temperature Range: The smoke detectors must operate effectively within a temperature range of 40F (4C) to 100F (38C). 2. Humidity Range: The detectors should operate within a relative humidity range of 10% to 90% (noncondensing) 3. Corrosion Resistance: Detectors should be resistant to environmental factors such as dust, dirt, and humidity to ensure long-term durability and performance. Warranty: 1. Warranty Period: The smoke detectors must have a minimum warranty period of 10 years from the date of installation, corresponding with the lifespan of the sealed battery. Quality Assurance and Documentation: 1. Certification: Provide proof of UL 217 compliance and any relevant testing certifications. 2. Manufacturer Information: Manufacturer name, product model, and contact details for support must be included
