Site work and paving for a road / highway in Odem, Texas. Working plans call for site work for a road / highway; and for paving for a road / highway.
**As of June 18,2025, the project is on hold. No definite date for the rebid.** The project will consist of: The project consists of the furnishing of all labor, equipment, tools, material, and the performance of all work necessary for minor pavement patching, pothole repair, crack cleaning, chip sealing, and construction of asphalt sealcoat, for three (3) miles of city streets at the locations specified by the City according to current TxDOT Standards Items Nos. 100 "Traffic Control", 102 "Site Work", 300 "Asphalt, Oils, & Emulsions, 600 "Surface Treatments", and all other TxDOT Standard Items that are necessary to complete the street work. 1. Surface Preparation: o Cleaning: The existing pavement surface needs to be thoroughly cleaned to remove debris, dirt, and loose materials. o Patching/Repair: Any significant cracks or potholes need to be repaired with asphalt patching material before applying the chip seal. o Brooming/Sweeping: The surface may need to be broomed or swept to ensure a clean and even surface. 2. Binder Application: o Asphalt Binder: A thin layer of heated asphalt binder (either an asphalt emulsion or a hot-applied binder) sprayed onto the prepared surface. o Distributor Truck: A special distributor truck is used to apply the binder evenly and at the correct rate. 3. Aggregate Application: o Crushed Stone/Gravel: A layer of crushed stone or gravel (chips or screenings) is spread over the wet asphalt binder. o Chip Spreader: A self-propelled chip spreader is used to apply the aggregate evenly. o Aggregate Size: The aggregate size shall measure in the ranges of 1/4 to 1/2 inch. 4. Compaction: o Rolling: The aggregate shall be rolled into the asphalt binder using rollers to ensure proper embedment and adhesion. o Pneumatic Rollers: Pneumatic rollers are commonly used on chip seal projects. 5. Final Sweeping: o Excess Aggregate: After the aggregate is compacted, excess loose aggregate shall be swept from the surface to prevent windshield and vehicle damage. o Traffic Control: Traffic control measures, such as reduced speed limits, barricades, or pilot vehicles, shall be implemented during the chip sealing process and until the chips are well adhered to the pavement surface. o Resweeping: At the City's request a second sweeping may be needed to remove any residual loose rock material that becomes dislodged during the initial curing period. A surety bond may be required by the city to ensure the contractor completes the work as agreed. The need, and amount of the bond will be discussed upon award of the contract with the contractor prior to the start of the project. The City reserves the right to reject any or all bids or to waive any informalities in the bidding.
