Renovation of a religious / funeral development in Yardley, Pennsylvania. Completed plans call for the renovation of a religious / funeral development.

The base bid for this project includes restoration of 94 headstone markers that need various restoration procedures including repair/restoration of fallen over, partially broken, fully broken, severely tilted and/or loose, severely cracked or buried headstones. All work must adhere to the recommendations made by the U.S. National Park Service (NPS) in preserving grave markers and historic cemeteries. Question Deadline 04/25/2025 at 8:00 AM ET Online Portal Any questions regarding this bid request should be sent in writing via email to both: Jim Majewski, Project Lead LMT - jimm@lmt.org Monica Hinden, Project Lead LMTHC - monicahinden@gmail.com Slate Hill Cemetery (SHC) is the oldest European/American cemetery in Bucks County, and counts as one of the oldest in the USA. Our oldest remaining headstone dates 1698. The last known burial at SHC was in 1929. The Lower Makefield Historical Commission has been actively working on reviving SHC to honor those buried there as well as engage our community in our rich history. The LMTHC hosts an annual Ghost Tour on the grounds, where members of our community portray different "eternal residents" and share their stories in full period costume to hundreds of visitors each year. The cemetery has a park-like feel and is a common walkway for neighbors heading to the SEPTA or Main St, Yardley. Throughout the cemetery, there are QR codes at various markers, so walkers are able to learn more about those buried on the grounds. All of this information is also available on our new website for those unable to attend in person. We are currently in the process of working with Pennsbury School District to build an educational experience on the grounds for the local student body. With all of this activity, it is paramount that SHC be safe. It has become clear we must restore many of the broken and leaning stones- for posterity as well as safety. The LMTHC is looking for a specialized contractor with experience in restoring historic cemeteries to lead this work. Background: Lower Makefield Township received a Keystone Historic Preservation Grant through the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission in the amount of $33,250 which is to be matched by Lower Makefield Township. We are not required to use this full amount. Field work on the project must be substantially complete by October 5, 2025 for our annual ghost tour at the cemetery. All work on the project must be complete by December 1, 2025.
