Many of the isolation valves and water services on the 12" water transmission main on Center Street between Loxahatchee River Road and Alternate A1A are between 45 and 50 years old. This project proposes to replace inoperable and aging valves along with old hydrants and water services. Timing of this project will be coordinated with Palm Beach County's (PBC's) Center Street road widening project anticipated to commence in 2028. This project supports the Town's Strategic Plan Results of Fiscal Responsibility and Safety by managing timely renewal and replacement of water system assets to provide well maintained infrastructure at established levels of service. These activities enable the Utility to provide safe and reliable drinking water plus necessary fire protection. Operable isolation valves in the water transmission and distribution systems are critical to minimizing interruption of water service to customers in the event of line breaks. In addition, valves must be located in safe and easily accessible locations as much as possible for staff safety. Completing this work in collaboration with the planned, PBC roadway project provides opportunity for collaboration and construction cost savings while minimizing impact to residents. Town staff is currently exploring the feasibility to establish a Joint Project Agreement (JPA) with Palm Beach County to accomplish design and/or construction of the necessary improvements in coordination with the road widening efforts on Center Street. The project is included in the City's 2026-2030 Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
