As of 6/6/2025, this project has been awarded and already completed but the award amount was not confirmed. PDCOG is requesting quotes on behalf of Chesterfield County for subsurface exploration of an existing parking lot on Chesterfield County property. The County plans to resurface (or reconstruct) the existing parking area. The existing half acre site is currently covered in asphalt with a small island and steps. Also, there is an existing retaining wall which lies between Page Street and the parking area which will need to be evaluated. Scope of Services • Perform borings at a minimum of three test locations for the parking area. Fill the bores with suitable material and asphalt. o The subsurface conditions observed in the borings will be photographed onsite and reported. • Classify soil samples, in accordance with the United Soil Classification System method described in ASTM D 2487, “Standard Practice for Classification of Soils for Engineering Purposes”. Resulting classifications shall be presented on boring logs in the report. • Recommend an asphalt pavement structure to accommodate approximately 100 vehicles a day including a trash-truck (dumpster-truck) once a week for a 20-year time span. • Recommend ways to evaluate and protect the existing retaining wall during construction. • Prepare a written report which will be transmitted, in electronic (PDF) and hard copy format. The report shall at a minimum include: o Discussion of overall project and findings, including a brief overview of site conditions observed, the Soil Survey data obtained, and a brief description of the soil profile observed at the site, to include existing asphalt thickness, soil layer thicknesses and the seasonal water table depth; o Site plan showing the approximate locations of borings and test locations; o Brief descriptions of sampling and testing procedures and soil test data; o Boring logs, discussions of the field exploration and laboratory procedures, laboratory data sheets, and results of all testing; o Existing Retaining Wall recommendations; o Recommended asphalt structure for expected traffic; and o Any other testing or evaluations recommended for a thorough report. *The list of planholders and/or interested bidders is not being tracked by the stakeholders involved with this project.
