Site work and new construction of a mixed-use development in Chicago, Illinois. Completed plans call for the construction of a sidewalk / parking lot; for site work for a sidewalk / parking lot; transportation facility; and transportation facility.
The Work to be performed includes but is not limited to. The work includes the following, which may or may not be a complete list: 1. Site Work a. Remove and replace the sidewalk in front of the station along the east side of California Avenue to the extent required to meet ADA compliance or as approved by the MOPD for deviations due to site constraints. b. Provide new ADA compliant sidewalk areas, including curb ramps, at the locations of new emergency egress stairs. Provide for any new crosswalk pavement markings as coordinated with CDOT. c. Relocate utilities as required for the work. Provide a trench drain, or similar drainage mechanism, to improve drainage at the rear of the stationhouse. d. Based on the review of the current electrical system and required upgrades for the elevators during the validation stage, provide for ComEd service upgrades and code compliant equipment. Work may require a new standalone electrical structure to be constructed in the fenced area behind the station to consolidate current gear. 2. Stationhouse Work 3. Demo stationhouse in areas required for new work; preserve finishes, historic features and artwork to the greatest extent possible; original artist to replace or repair artwork where removed for construction. a. Upgrade or provide power assisted entry/exit doors per ADA requirements. Doors shall match the historic context of the station. b. Provide two (2) inbound/outbound new Heavy Duty transit elevators with machine room per ASME, including elevator structure, cladding, and pits. Foundation underpinning for the inbound elevator pit may be required due to the adjacent property. Work includes all plumbing, mechanical, and electrical work to support the elevators per code and CTA design criteria. c. Relocate the fare vending equipment and barriers for the new elevators. Replace or refurbish granite flooring as required. d. Paint stationhouse interior except for stationhouse doors, windows, trim and other surfaces currently stained/sealed for historic property reasons. e. Provide new CTA elevator signage and any other signage that may be required. Signage was upgraded in 2015 and does not require full replacement. f. Repair or replace roof based on validation stage inspection. g. Include stationhouse modifications for new elevator; finishes shall be like original state after work completion. h. Provide all communications work to support elevator installation, including cameras and emergency call boxes. 4. Platform Level - a. Extend and modify canopy over new elevators and to the extents determined during the validation stage; include light fixtures, signage, speakers and cameras. Existing railings and lights are to be reused to the extent feasible. b. Increase the width of narrow platform areas at the south ends of the inbound and outbound platforms, as shown on the drawings; match adjacent panel railing design; modify lights, speakers and signage. c. Extend platform and construct exit stairs based upon the configuration determined during the validation stage. d. Relocate electrical, signal, and communication lines for new work. e. Provide signage at new exits.
