Renovation of a museum in Charlotte, North Carolina. Completed plans call for the renovation of a museum.

https://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/news/2025/06/02/nascar-hall-of-fame-renovation-museum-tax.html The Charlotte Business Journal article from June 2, 2025, reports that the NASCAR Hall of Fame is seeking approval from the Charlotte City Council for a $25 million renovation project. The proposed improvements aim to enhance the facility's appeal and functionality, addressing challenges such as lower-than-expected visitor attendance. Project Overview: Estimated Cost: $25 million Proposed Enhancements: Exterior Upgrades: Relocation of the gear shop to the front of the building to increase retail visibility. Interior Improvements: Installation of a new café and event space to diversify offerings and attract a broader audience. Funding Source: The project would be financed through the 2% hotel/motel tax revenue, which has been allocated for the Hall of Fame's operations and maintenance. Opened in 2010, the NASCAR Hall of Fame is a city-owned facility located at 400 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd in Charlotte. Despite initial projections of attracting 800,000 visitors annually, actual attendance has been approximately 170,000 in recent years. To support the Hall's operations, the city implemented a 2% tax on hotel and motel rooms, generating about $20 million annually. This revenue has been used to cover debt payments and maintenance costs, with the remaining funds reserved for future needs. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposals for a Lighting Package at the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
