BC Parks is seeking a contractor to undertake trail bridge upgrades on the Murtle Lake portage trail in Wells Gray Park which is located approximately 24km west of the community of Blue River. The work includes the full replacement of an approximately 8m timber trail bridge with an approximately 12m steel girder trail bridge in accordance with the project drawings and specifications. Wells Gray Park located near Clearwater, BC is a popular destination for both local and international visitors. The park offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities including camping, hiking, and day use activities. Within the park, Murtle Lake is world-famous as the largest non-motorized lake in North America and is popular with visitors for its paddling opportunities. Access to Murtle Lake is via a 2.5km portage trail which includes 4 timber trail bridges. Recent engineering inspections have found that bridge #114768, located approximately 900m from the trailhead, is reaching the end of it's useful service life and requires replacement. SNT Engineering LTD was engaged by BC Parks to prepare designs for a new trail bridge and it is BC Parks intention to replace the existing trail bridge with an improved structure.
