The University of Guelph recently undertook a steam trap audit that identified steam traps on campus that are currently uninsulated. This project involves the supply and installation of removable, reusable insulation jackets with Velcro fasteners for steam traps throughout the main campus of the University. The goal is to reduce energy loss, enhance personnel safety, and improve overall steam system efficiency. The scope of this project is as follows: a) Perform a site survey to confirm all traps listed in Appendix D require insulation and sizing. b) Provide and install two hundred and thirty-seven (237) removable Velcro insulation jackets for steam traps on campus that are currently uninsulated. See Appendix D for the list of traps to be insulated. c) U of G preference for steam trap jackets is Shannon-INSULTECH Heat Shield LT500HS-TC. Equivalent alternatives must be approved by the University d) Ensure that the insulation shall not hinder operation of the steam trap. e) Insulation for thermodynamic disc traps shall only cover the body, not the cap. f) Each jacket must be clearly labelled with the steam trap tag number as listed in Appendix D. g) The Contractor shall maintain accurate, up-to-date records for each insulation jacket that has been installed and shall provide an update of the List of Steam Traps that Require Removable Insulation Jackets included in Appendix D at the completion of the project. h) The Contractor shall provide all required information to support incentive applications. Work shall commence as soon as possible, with all work to be completed by October 31, 2025.
