The City of Newton, Iowa is requesting proposals from qualified general contractors for construction of a 40' x 80' post frame building with 14' high sidewalls and a pitched roof to be constructed on a monolithic concrete foundation for the Newton Public Safety Storage Building, to be located at 500 West 7th Street North, Newton, Iowa. The engineer of record (EOR) has prepared engineering of the building. Project Name: Newton Public Safety Storage Building Location: 500 West 7th St North, Newton, Iowa 50208 Foundation Type: Monolithic concrete slab with shallow frost-free footing Building Type: Post frame construction (engineering completed) Building Dimensions: 40 feet x 80 feet Use: Public Safety Storage (equipment and apparatus) The successful proposer shall provide a complete building, including: A. Engineering: o Engineering and design have already been completed and paid for by the City of Newton. o Building is to be built according to engineer of record (EOR) design. o Geotechnical investigation has been completed and is attached to this RFP B. General Conditions. o General contractor to be responsible for all permits o General contractor responsible for site sanitation to include, but not limited to: i. Portable toilets ii. General and final clean-up o General contractor may provide alternates to materials as part of proposal. Changes to the structural design are not allowed. i. Any changes must be presented in writing with specifications at time of proposal. ii. All changes shall be presented to designated contact in Section 9 of this document. C. Site Work Excavation: o Final floor height to be determined by general contractor and designated contact o Provide and install adequate site erosion control measures. o Excavation to ground of suitable bearing. o Rock drainage as designed. o Rock base to be provided under exterior concrete pads in front of walk doors. o Rock base to be provided a minimum of 2 feet out from foundation under PCC front apron o 4" tile line in rock layer outside of monolithic footing to daylight. o Use of on-site soils for fill and final grade around building (consider site visit) o Final grade to be seeded to provide adequate ground stabilization in all areas of disturbance.
