LOCATION OF WORK The project is located within the municipal limits of the Village of Sauget, Illinois, and is at the 4-way intersection of Monsanto Avenue (aka FAU 9194) and IL Rte. 3 (aka Mississippi Ave., aka FAP 312). For reference purposes, the 4-way intersection will consist of Monsanto Ave. (east and west leg), and IL Rte. 3 (north and south leg). The physical improvements to the roadway are generally confined to the eastern leg, and extend from the east edge of the northbound, traveled pavement of IL Rte. 3, eastwardly on Monsanto Ave. for approximately 208 feet. Improvements on the other legs of the intersection are generally limited to pavement striping. DESCRIPTION OF WORK The proposed improvements consist of furnishing all labor, equipment and materials necessary to construct the following: The intersection improvements include, but are not limited to, the milling of the existing asphalt pavement on the east leg of the intersection to allow for the placement of a new asphalt surface course. The island in the southeast quadrant of the intersection will be removed, and the existing traffic signal from that island will be relocated to a point behind the existing curb on the existing rounding. The existing island in the northeast quadrant will be reshaped slightly to allow for improved vehicular movements. The existing shoulder on the northeast corner will be extended northwardly to provide for improved pedestrian access to the newly constructed bus stop immediately north of the northeast corner of the intersection. Two curb inlets along Monsanto Ave. will receive new inlet stones (tops), and approximately 214 lineal feet of concrete curb and gutter along the northeast rounding will be removed and replaced. New pavement markings will be placed on all four legs of the intersection. The proposed improvements require traffic control, erosion control, signage, and all other miscellaneous items necessary to complete the proposed improvements in 40 working days, all as shown on the plans.
