The University of Wisconsin-Madison is requesting bids for the purchase of Parking Ramp Fence Project. If you have any questions, they MUST be directed to Brad Bauman at brad.bauman@wisc.edu. Agency Contact: Lori Pulvermacher This bid requires the design, fabrication and Install "Fall Protection System(s)" (aka fencing) for two parking facilities on the UW Madison Campus serving UW Hospitals. The design is to mimic the fencing recently installed at the Henry S. Middleton Veteran's Hospital Parking Structure located at the intersection of University Bay Drive and Marshall Court in Madison, WI. Location one requires Levels 2, 3, 4, and 5 within The UW Hospital Parking Ramp (Lot 75) located at 610 Highland Avenue, Madison WI. The system shall be designed and installed to meet applicable load criteria for a permanent fall protection system. Location two requires a partial fencing with designated locations identified at the American Family Children's Hospital Parking Ramp (Lot 63) located at 1655 Highland Avenue. The system shall be designed and installed to meet applicable load criteria for a permanent fall protection system. Timeline: This project has a deadline of November 1, 2025 to be completed with full installation for both parking.structures Requirements Lot 75 o All installation of fencing is required to meet the minimum specifications below o Resist 50 plf and/or 200 lb. point load o Not allowed a sphere of 4" in diameter or larger to pass through o All fencing material will be the color black o The awarded vendor will provide engineering drawings to ensure all loads are met o Lot 75 Level 5 shall be constructed with Wire Wall fencing material by Riverdale Mills used at the Veteran's ramp or equivalent material approved by owner, (Figure 1) https://riverdale.com/products/wirewall/wirewall-high-security-mesh/ o Spacing Across Wires - 0.5" o Spacing Line Wires - 3" o Wire Gauge - 8 o Nominal Wire Size - 0.162 o Lot 75 Level 5 rooftop will have a height of 5' above structural wall surface o Lot 75 Level 5 rooftop fencing shall be designed and installed such that all the perimeter rooftop columns with or without light poles be wrapped to the inside of the column, prohibiting access to the column top. Note there are structural steel attachments on two sides of most of the columns (Figure 2, Figure 3) o Lot 75 Level 5 rooftop has 29 columns will be required to be wrapped, 4 of those columns have a light post on them that will also be wrapped like the other columns o Lot 75 Level 5 rooftop has 15 light poles will need to have fencing abut them with less than a 4" radial sphere gap between pole and fence o Lot 75 system(s) for Levels 2, 3, and 4 will require filling the open space between precast panels (Figure 4) o Lot 75 system(s) for Levels 2, 3, and 4 can be constructed similar to a chain link (cyclone) security fencing system (Figure 5) o Lot 75 system(s) for Levels 2, 3, and 4 Components shall be hot dipped galvanized (Zinc-Coated Steel Fabric: shall be hot dipped galvanized before weaving (GBW) and factory painted black in color o Provide concrete anchorage devices shall be stainless steel o Provide detailed shop drawings by awarded vendor indicating post mounting plate sizing, and specific concrete anchorage devices to be used nstallation Process Lot 75 o This will be phased project working with UW Transportation Services to close off sections of parking available for work to occur, phases will allow up to 100 parking stalls to be blocked during installation, 2 sides of the ramp by floor Phases will be determined during initial walk through after award o AutoCAD and PDF rendering of parking layout can be provided after award o All signs will be removed by owner prior to fence phases and placement o All fire extinguisher boxes on columns and walls will be removed by owner prior to fence phases and placement o A delivery laydown area and dumpster location will be provided per work phase at the exterior of the parking structure. The movement of materials within the parking structure has a clearance of 6'-8" o Bathrooms will not be provided; owner will be provided location to place temporary bathroom if required Requirements Lot 63 o All installation of fencing is required to meet the minimum specifications below o Resist 50 plf and/or 200 lb. point load o Not allowed a sphere of 4" in diameter or larger to pass through o All fencing material will be the color black o The awarded bidder will provide engineering drawings to ensure all loads are met Lot 63 Level 1 (rooftop) and E (Emergency Room) Level shall be constructed with Wire Wall fencing material by Riverdale Mills used at the Veteran's ramp or equivalent material. https://riverdale.com/products/wirewall/wirewall-high-security-mesh/ o Spacing Across Wires - 0.5" o Spacing Line Wires - 3" o Wire Gauge - 8 o Nominal Wire Size - 0.162 o Lot 63 Level 1 height will match the total height of columns on exterior west walls of 3' LF above wall and follow this path down the rooftop ramp to the far northwest column on the rooftop drive. (Figure 6) o Level 1 and E level fence placement will be column to column with space between fence and column no more than a sphere of 4" in diameter or larger to pass through o Lot 63 Level E will have a height of 5' above structural wall surface (Figure 7) o Provide concrete anchorage devices shall be stainless steel o Provide detailed shop drawings by awarded vendor indicating post mounting plate sizing, and specific concrete anchorage devices to be used Installation Process Lot 63 o All identified areas can be closed off for work to occur, will be coordinated during initial walk through after award. o AutoCAD and PDF rendering of parking layout can be provided after award o A delivery laydown area and dumpster location will be provided per work phase at the exterior of the parking structure. The movement of materials within the parking structure has a clearance of 8'2" o All signs will be removed by owner prior to work o All temporary fences will be removed by owner prior to work o Bathrooms will not be provided; contractor will be provided location to place temporary bathroom Figure 1 - VA Hospital Rooftop
