Extensive shoreline erosion and stamp sand exposure and discharge have occurred along portions of the Torch Lake Superfund Site engineered cover at Lake Linden. This erosion has caused a loss of up to 15 ft of shoreline in areas north and south. The area needs to be repaired and restored to prevent further erosion and stamp sand deposition at this site. To accomplish this repair and restoration, the Lake Linden Shoreline Restoration plan (presented in the attached drawings) has been developed. The construction activities will include, but are not limited to, installation of SESC measures required by the State and Local Agencies including installation of a silt fence and turbidity curtain. The soil and stamp sands will be mechanically dredged and excavated along the shoreline (both north and south areas) prior to the installation of geotextile fabric 1-3-inch washed stone bedding and hard armory of riprap approximately 3 ft in thickness. Following installation of riprap, the area will need to be backfilled with the excavated/dredged material and 6-inches of topsoil, to bring the area back up to the existing shoreline grade. The area will then be seeded with native vegetation and a mulch blanket within the disturbed areas (including the transition and upload zones) to establish turf to help stabilize soil, reduce runoff and support local biodiversity. Cold hardy native plants will be selected from the USDA Hardiness Zone 4b. CONTRACT TIME(S) 120 days from Notice-to-Proceed Question Deadline 06/23/2025 at 2:00 PM ET
