This project that would leverage over 60 GWs of wind power potential in Nova Scotia, and more across Atlantic Canada, connecting that renewable, emissions-free energy to Eastern and Atlantic Canada to meet rapidly growing demand. Wind West could be Canada's first offshore wind development and will set the scale, direction and trajectory for future growth. Unlocking 5,000 MW in the first phase could produce 24 TWh of clean energy every year and drive billions in new investment and economic activity across Canada, led by the private sector. Four offshore areas had been designated for offshore wind development: The French Bank, Middle Bank and Sable Island Bank - all south of Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore - and Sydney Bight, northeast of Cape Breton. TIMELINE: Project is conceptual. The Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Energy Regulator (CNSOER) has pre-qualified seven companies and consortia that will be able to participate in the offshore wind Call for Bids NS25-1R. The proponents include: DEME Concessions Wind N.V; a group comprised of DP Energy Canada Limited, Enterprize Energy Atlantic Pte. Ltd., Nova East Wind Inc., and SBM Renewables Holding SA; a group comprised of Hanwha Ocean Co, Ltd. and Q ENERGY France SAS; Jan De Nul nv; Ming Yang Smart Energy Group Limited; Northland Power Inc.; and Simply Blue Energy (OSW) Ltd. The call for bids NS25-1R is to open in the coming months, for up to 5 gigawatts.
