Renovation of a museum in Bath, North Carolina. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a museum.
Prior to design of the items identified below and a complete finish out of the second floor, a number of studies and evaluations must be completed to accurately estimate the extent and cost of these renovations. A structural study, code evaluation, and conceptual design plan must be provided to recommend solutions to the creation of a party wall. An egress study must be done to evaluate exit paths, egress lights and exit signs. An accessibility study will provide concepts for a new accessible entrance, exterior ADA directions signage, and a new door to the elevator room. Historic Bath High School is comprised of three attached buildings. This project will address the Northwest Building. The first floor underwent a complete renovation in 2018. The second floor is unfinished and requires a complete architectural renovation. The asphalt shingle roof was replaced in 2018 and remains in good condition. An elevator was added to the building approximately 3-4 years ago. A number of important items must be addressed to bring the Historic Bath Exhibit Center into compliance with the current NC Building Code. Those items include: _ The brick wall located on the south lot line between the northwest and south buildings serves as a "party wall" per Part 706.1.1 of the North Carolina Building Code. Currently, this wall does not appear to conform to the requirements of a party wall. _ The second floor requires the addition of egress lights and exit signs, fire alarm devices and other life safety requirements. _ A conforming party wall will require the creation of a new accessible building entrance. _ The second floor of the building requires a complete mechanical renovation. _ Both floors of the Northwest Building require the addition of a fire suppression system. Upon completion of the Study for Phase 1, a standard design contract would be issued for the required Design, Bidding, Construction Administration, and Closeout services
