The improvements, which began this week, are part of an extensive project aimed at reinforcing and upgrading the popular recreational spot, as reported by the St. Tammany Parish. The renovations include the removal of damaged timber structures and the installation of approximately 25,000 pounds of new structural steel, which will provide framing, decking, and support for the piles. The pier will also be extended to reach the jetty, a move that will enhance coastal protection efforts and offer expanded fishing opportunities. Alongside the waterfront refurbishments, parking lot enhancements are also on the agenda, to better accommodate the influx of visitors expected once the pier reopens, as detaile by the St. Tammany Parish. The project, slated for completion in early 2027, comes at no cost to the public. Once finished, the pier will be accessible 24 hours a day, providing round-the-clock fishing amenities. According to a Facebook post by St. Tammany Parish, "When completed by early 2027, the new St. Tammany Fishing Pier will be FREE to use and will be open 24 HOURS A DAY!" The venture is a collective effort, supported by the Parish Councilmembers, the Department of Engineering, and federal partners.
