Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Des Moines, Iowa. Conceptual plans call for site work for a playground / park / athletic field; sidewalk / parking lot; and for paving for a sidewalk / parking lot.

Necessitated by Des Moines River levee modifications, the relocation and development of Allen Park located at 4850 SE 5th Street began in 2021. Through comprehensive and thorough research, the Parks and Recreation Planning Division identified four park service gap areas to further analyze for a potential park site. The selected site, made up of two parcels, covered the largest area of all the parcels considered and will provide over 2,200 residents within the City of Des Moines access to a park within a 10-minute walk. Phase 1 future improvements include open pace, 5-12 year old playground, 2-5 year old playground, open air shelter, stormwater management, ADA parking, and a kybo enclosure. Phase 2 improvements include open space and pedestrian stream crossing. Both phases are contingent on private and grant funding. As of Jun 16, 2025, The project is include in the City's 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
