Renovation of an educational facility in Atlanta, Georgia. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a 60,000-square-foot educational facility.
Design Professional Services for Project 100 Edgewood Avenue Classroom Renovation, Georgia State University, Atlanta, Georgia. Please see the attached documents and Egnyte upload instructions. Project Background Established in 1913, Georgia State University is one of the 26 higher education institutions that comprise the University System of Georgia. With a current student enrollment of over 52,000, it is one of the largest institutions of higher education in Georgia and among the largest in enrollment nationally. Students come from every county in Georgia, every state in the nation, and over 160 countries. Located in the heart of downtown Atlanta, the main campus consists of approximately 71 acres and 67 buildings, including parking decks. There are five additional Perimeter College campuses in metropolitan Atlanta: Dunwoody, Decatur, Clarkston, Newton, and Alpharetta. Panther Express provides transportation around Georgia State's downtown Atlanta Campus, with stops in the Fairlie-Poplar Historic District, the Sweet Auburn neighborhood, the university's residential corridor, and Historic Summerhill, near Georgia State's Center Parc Stadium and Convocation Center. In April 2023, GSU adopted the current strategic plan "Blueprint to 2033 - Our Place, Our Time". The four pillars of the strategic plan are: o Identity, Placemaking and Belonging o Innovating Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity o Student Success 2.0 o Beyond College to Career This project advances the goals of Identity, Placemaking, and Belonging, Innovation and Student Success. It will create inviting, comfortable, and accessible spaces where people feel safe and 3 want to learn, study, work, play, live, and connect. GSU will accomplish this by providing worldclass facilities that meet the needs of our diverse communities and promote a secure feeling that fosters social engagement, connection, and belonging. Project Description As part of the "College Town Downtown" Initiative, the renovation will re-imagine three of the building's eighteen floors, turning them into modern, flexible learning environments that meet the needs of today's students. Positioned just a block from University Lofts and Patton Hall, this building will become a beacon of learning, drawing students from nearby housing to state-of-the-art classroom spaces. With these renovations, we will seamlessly bridge the gap between residence and academic life, creating an inspiring and convenient hub for education, creativity, and connection. GSU is proposing to renovate approximately 60,000 square feet on the second, third, and fourth floors of the 100 Edgewood building to provide modernized classrooms that align with the university's current educational needs and priorities. The new classrooms would replace those that will be eliminated by the demolition of Sparks Hall. The scope of the project also includes installation of communicating stairs between the three floors.
